Fort McMurray observes five new cases of COVID-19

Alberta reported five new cases and one recovery of COVID-19 in Fort McMurray.

There are 18 active cases of the illness and 76 recoveries within the urban service area.

Outside the urban service area, there are no active cases of COVID-19 for the third straight day.

The COVID-19 response plan in Fort McKay will remain in place.

Bill Duncan, Marketing and Communications Coordinator for the Fort McKay First Nation said measures such as mask-wearing while outdoors and travel restrictions will continue until further notice.

Alberta also reported the COVID-19 outbreak at CNRL’s Albian site remains in effect.

136 RMWB residents recovered from the illness.

In the last 24 hours, there were 108 new cases of COVID-19, two deaths, and 124 recoveries across Alberta.

Alberta has 1158 active cases, 237 deaths, and 11,923 resolved cases of the virus.

49 Albertans are currently in hospital receiving treatment with seven in intensive care.

Dr Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health, said the province’s back-to-school toolkit is available for download on the Alberta website.

Hinshaw said the impact of the second wave of COVID-19 depends on the actions of Albertans.

The toolkit is available in seven languages.

Health officials completed 10,089 tests in the last 24 hours for a total of 922,397 tests.
