Drug trafficking investigation in downtown Fort McMurray leads to arrest

Wood Buffalo RCMP’s Drug Enforcement Unit arrested a 56-year-old man following a drug trafficking investigation.

On Sept. 2, police with assistance from the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team executed a search warrant at a Saunderson Avenue apartment complex in downtown Fort McMurray.

RCMP arrested Garfield Fitzgerald Johnson of Fort McMurray and seized 110 grams of suspected cocaine and more than $57,000.

Johnson faces charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.

He also faces four charges of failure to comply with conditions.

Johnson remains in custody and will appear in court on Sept. 8, 2020.

Wood Buffalo RCMP encourage residents who suspect drug activity in their community to contact their local detachment.
