Regional Emergency Services (RES) has named Kelly Roberts as its Deputy Chief of Operations and Technical Services.

The move marks the first time a female has been appointed to the position.

Regional Fire Chief, Jody Butz said that the position has historically been held by men with past experience in firefighting.

“Kelly and I are proud to be a part of an organization that supports diversity and offers opportunity for advancement and progression among a team of peers and colleagues,”

Roberts has a wealth of experience which includes five years as Assistant Deputy Chief of Communications with the department.

Part of that role was leading the region’s 911 Emergency Communications Centre through the 2016 wildfire response.

During the past six months, she has been Acting Deputy Fire Chief of Operations and Technical Services, during which she led RES through some of our community’s most unprecedented times, including the spring flood.

“Through all of these events, Kelly has demonstrated strong leadership and I have full confidence in her ability to lead the operations and technical services team,”

Earlier this year Roberts also led the Emergency Communications Centre to attaining an International Academics of Emergency Dispatch® status as an Accredited Centre of Excellence for its use in Medical Priority Dispatch System.

The accreditation placed the municipality among the highest performing emergency dispatch agencies in the world.
