Alberta releases online map reporting status of schools for COVID-19

Alberta reports five new cases and nine recoveries of COVID-19 in Fort McMurray in the last 24 hours.

In the urban service area, there are 62 active cases, one death, and 109 recovered cases linked to the illness.

This follows Alberta’s report of the first fatality linked to COVID-19 on Sept. 8.

The province also updated its online map to show two previously recovered cases from outside the urban service area still have COVID-19.

This means there are four active cases and 58 recovered cases outside the urban service area.

RMWB Council passed a motion to look at a bylaw on mandatory masks in the region at a special meeting on Sept. 14.

Across Alberta, there are 98 active cases, one death, and 204 recovered cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

The province has 1585 active cases, 248 deaths, and 13,358 resolved cases of the illness.

45 Albertans are currently in hospital receiving treatment, including seven in intensive care.

Dr Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health, announced a new provincial map charting school alerts for COVID-19.

“The school outbreak map shows the current status of COVID-19 in K-12 schools across Alberta. Schools that have two or more confirmed cases will be identified on the map.”

Hinshaw added while there are 16 cases of the illness in 16 schools across Alberta, none met the requirement.

Health officials conducted 10,500 COVID-19 tests in the last 24 hours.
