RMWB Council meets for a second day to debate the administration’s updated flood mitigation options.

Mayor and Councillors began their videoconference meeting on Sept. 15 to examine the infrastructure performance report.

That report covers the Municipality’s infrastructure during the 2020 Flood and its preparedness for 2021.

Prior to recess, RMWB Council unanimously approved a motion for the Taiga Nova Eco-Industrial Park.

Introduced by Councillor Krista Balsom, the motion calls for completion of structural flood mitigation for Taiga Nova to the 1:200 year flood level.

It also will limit development below 250-meters, and introduce enhanced flood provisions in the Land Use Bylaw (LUB) for development above 250-meters.

Friendly amendments from Mayor Don Scott and Councillor Sheila Lalonde added a target completion date of Oct. 15, 2021.

Council passed that motion unanimously.

Mayor and Councillors will meet on Sept. 16 at 4:00 p.m. to continue discussion and debate on flood mitigation options.
