Fort McMurray airport first to receive Global Health Accreditation in Western Canada

Enhanced health and safety measures have earned the Fort McMurray International Airport (YMM) a new accreditation.

The airport is the first in Western Canada to be accredited under Airports Council International – World Airport Health Accreditation program.

President & CEO of YMM, RJ Steenstra said that the airport’s enhanced health and safety program, called YMM COMMITTED, has received positive feedback from users since it’s launch in March.

“That combined with achieving this accreditation validates for us that we are taking the appropriate steps to reduce the risk of exposure at YMM.”

The accreditation program is voluntary for airports, but a third-party global audit was done of YMM’s policies, procedures and precautionary measures to reduce to risk of infectious disease exposure.

Mayor Don Scott recently toured the airport to learn more about the enhanced health and safety program.

“In achieving this global health accreditation, the Fort McMurray International Airport once again demonstrates its commitment to excellence and to providing an exceptional travel experience,”

Toronto Pearson International Airport and Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport were the first two airports in Canada to achieve the accreditation, with YMM being the third.
