Earls Kitchen and Bar has been working with Alberta Health Services (AHS) following an outbreak at the restaurant.
The restaurant announced the first known case of COVID-19 on August 31 and five more people in that person’s cohort within the restaurant also tested positive.
Earls Managing Partner Stu Wigle said everyone who tested positive has been recovered for over two weeks and were already in quarantine.
None of the cases were deemed transmitted at the restaurant, which has many healthy and safety protocols in place.
“I’ve talked to AHS, the COVID team, the close contact team, or the outbreak team every single day for some reason or another for the last four weeks.”
Wigle added that in August, when the first positive case was confirmed, AHS did not mandate that the restaurant close, instead they chose to close to go over training as well as clean and disinfect the entire facility.
“We need to work together through these times. I think that businesses need to continue to support each other to make sure that information is accurate and to realize that everybody approaches this differently.”
An outbreak is reported publicly when there are five or more cases linked to one facility. the outbreak is declared over when four weeks have passed with no new cases.
Other outbreaks in the region include CNRL Albian, Suncor Base Plant, Syncrude Aurora site, and Syncrude Mildred Lake site.
