A member of the Wood Buffalo RCMP faces one count of assault with a weapon.

Alberta RCMP charged 25-year-old Const. Joshua Jackson following an investigation into an alleged incident on Sept. 17, 2020.

While off-duty at the time, Const. Jackson threw a cellphone at an adult female.

Once transported to hospital, the woman received treatment and was then released.

RCMP removed Const. Jackson from general patrol duties immediately following the incident.

They added Jackson, who was only with the RCMP for five months, will work in an administrative capacity for the foreseeable future.

“The Alberta RCMP believes in processes that seek the facts and it’s important that processes taken to assess the actions of all those involved, including the police, are fair, transparent, and defendable. This is why, when we become aware of a situation that requires review, we immediately initiate internal processes to look at the totality of the incident, including the actions of the member and the duty status of the member.”

Const. Jackson will appear in court on Sept. 29, 2020.
