The Northern Lights Health Foundation (NLHF) announced its annual sprint competition raised over $56,500 for local healthcare initiatives.

The amount is a record for the annual competition.

“The success of this year’s event goes to all the sponsors, participants, the donors pledging the participants, and all the volunteers,” Said Kyle Taback, Vice Chair of the NLHF Board of Directors. “It is incredibly inspiring to see this kind of engagement and support.”

Sprinters and volunteers gathered at Snye Park for the 3rd annual Hospital Bed Races, presented by Raymond James, on Sept. 26.

Organizers transformed the upper parking lot into the AlumaSafway Race Track for the day.

Cindy Amerongen, Executive Director of the NLHF, said 14 teams lined up in fun competition to win the coveted Golden Bedpan Trophy.

“This event is a tremendous opportunity for people to have fun, build team-spirit, and raise funds for local healthcare. We know that our community members thrive on healthy competition and are great supporters of healthy lifestyles, display a safety-conscious attitude, and love to have fun while fundraising.”

The NLHF also said this year’s edition of Hospital Bed Races set a new record for team participation.

Lorna Ash, Director of Development said the teams dedicated the races to the region’s healthcare workers.

“The teams really wanted to ensure this event went ahead this year. More than ever the need to connect our community and support each other is there.”

The winner of the Golden Bedpan for 2020 is SMS Heavy Haulers.

Ped’s for Speed, Pediatric and Maternity Team won the Team Spirit award, while the BME Bed Pan Runners raised the most funds.

“The most important thing to remember is we all came out winners here” Said Nadine Allen of Raymond James. “Our collective fundraising ensures the vitality of health services and we know healthcare is for everyone.”

The Hospital Bed Races, presented by Raymond James, take place on the last weekend of September.
