Fort McMurray man charged with drug trafficking in Grande Prairie

RCMP in Grande Prairie laid drug trafficking charges on a 56-year-old man from Fort McMurray.

On Oct. 18 at 6:00 p.m., police observed a suspicious truck near the city’s downtown at 97a Street and 100 Avenue.

During the investigation, they found the license plate did not match the truck.

While conducting a traffic stop, RCMP also learned the male driver did not have a valid operator’s license and outstanding warrants.

Police searched the truck seizing 47.29 grams of bluish-purple fentanyl, 53 grams of methamphetamine, and $1655 cash.

RCMP charged the 56-year-old man from Fort McMurray with possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl and possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine.

He also faces charges of possession of proceeds of crime under $5000, operating an uninsured vehicle on a highway, and operating a vehicle without a subsisting license.

The man remains in custody awaiting a judicial interim release hearing.
