Alberta RCMP arrest Conklin man wanted on outstanding warrants

Police arrested four people in an operation to apprehend repeat offenders, including a Conklin man.

On Oct. 14, 2020, RCMP conducted a planned operation in Lac La Biche, Alta.

The Eastern Alberta Rural Crime Reduction Unit, and St Paul and Cold Lake RCMP Police Dog Services assisted them in the operation.

Sgt. Charles Brown with the Lac La Biche Detachment said the collaboration was successful.

“We will continue these types of initiatives to reduce crime in our communities and bring those who are wanted before the courts.”

RCMP arrested 35-year-old Damien Quintal of Conklin at a residence in Lac La Biche on outstanding warrants during the round-up.

Police also arrested 55-year-old Murray Laboucane of Lac La Biche for outstanding warrants at a separate residence in the town.

Police chase

During the operation on Oct. 14, officers observed a wanted man and a female passenger driving a stolen truck out of Smoky Lake, Alta.

Police identified the driver as 24-year-old Chad Gladue of Beaver Lake, Alta., and the passenger as 34-year-old Gina Huppie from Lac La Biche.

RCMP used a tire deflation device to immobilize the fleeing vehicle.

Gladue and Huppie exited the vehicle to flee on foot, but police later found and arrested them with assistance from Police Dog Services.

Police searched the vehicle and found a sawed-off shotgun.

RCMP charged Gladue, who has outstanding warrants for 15 Criminal Code offences, with 13 additional charges relating to this incident.

They include the flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, careless use of a firearm, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He also faces charges of possession of stolen property over $5000, and four counts of failure to comply with a release order.

Gladue remains in custody and will appear in court on Nov. 2, 2020.

RCMP additional charged Huppie, who has outstanding warrants for 11 Criminal Code offences, with nine offences from the incident.

They include careless use of a firearm, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, obstructing a peace officer, and two counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon.

Huppie was released following a judicial hearing, but must re-appear in Provincial Court on Nov. 2.
