Keyano College will welcome safe spaces on campus with a new initiative.

The Keyano College Student Life Department announced the launch of “Keyano College Caucuses”.

Frederick Russell, Vice-President of Academics, said the caucuses are open to all students, faculty, staff, and community members.

“We are very excited to be providing the college community new avenues to share experiences and provide peer support. This is one of many initiatives that Keyano College has pursued to ensure that inclusivity is a big part of the Keyano experience.”

Keyano said the caucuses are safe, equitable, and inclusive spaces for marginalized voices at the College.

The following are the initial Caucuses the post-secondary institution developed:

  • Keyano College Queer Caucus for those who identify as LGBTQ2S+
  • Keyano College International Caucus for members who identify as an International Student, Permanent Resident, Refugee or a Canadian Citizen not born and raised in Canada.
  • Keyano College Indigenous Caucus for members who identify Inuit, Métis, First Nations or an Aboriginal person from outside of Canada.

The caucuses’ purpose is to help raise awareness around societal issues, find solutions, and provide overall improvement within the community.

Caucuses will also foster an appreciation for diversity through solidarity, allyship, and unity.
