In the last 24 hours, Alberta has a record 622 new cases of COVID0-19 along with five additional deaths.

The positivity rate is above five per cent, which exceeds the World Health Organization’s recommended threshold.

More Albertans entered hospitals as 140 receive treatment across the province, including 25 in intensive care.

Alberta has 5172 active cases, 323 deaths, and 22,169 recovered cases of COVID-19.

Alberta reports nine new cases and a single recovered case of COVID-19 in Wood Buffalo in the last 24 hours.

All but one new case are within the urban service area, which has 43 active cases, one death, and 308 resolved cases of the illness.

Outside the urban service area, there are eight active cases and 64 resolved cases.

CNRL Horizon, Suncor’s Base Plant, and Syncrude’s Mildred Lake site are still on Alberta’s list of COVID-19 outbreak locations.

Schools in the region are all on “open status” with none listed under outbreak locations.

The RMWB’s active COVID-19 case rate per 100,000 Albertans is 61.5, despite having only 51 total active cases in the region.

New federal projections suggest that Canadians need to cut a quarter of their contacts to keep the COVID-19 outbreak from resurging.

The modelling indicates that at current rates of in-person socializing, Canada could see COVID-19 case counts increase to 8,000 per day come early December.

Public health officials said a 25 per cent reduction in contacts could control the spread of the virus in most locations.

Canada’s chief public health officer said further restrictions and closures may be needed in communities where the virus is surging.

Dr Theresa Tam added more regions have reported increased rates of infection over the past two weeks.

26 Indigenous communities reported two or more active COVID-19 cases.

The forecasts predict that Canada’s total COVID-19 count could reach 262,000 cases and 10,400 deaths cases by Nov. 8.
