Keyano College announced it will forgo competing in the 2021 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Winter Athletics Season.

The school joins other Alberta colleges in the decision due to ongoing challenges with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Interim President and CEO Dale Mountain said the health and wellness of the school’s student-athletes and employees is its top priority.

“The health and safety of our students and employees is our foremost priority, and we take all that responsibility very seriously. We remain committed to giving our Huskies athletes the best possible experience and as a result, team practices and training will continue in the winter semester where it can take place in a safe manner and in compliance of Alberta Health Services COVID-19 guidelines.”

The decision affects men’s and women’s volleyball, basketball, and futsal.

Keyano also suspended cheer and cricket, which are both non-ACAC athletics.
