CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The province of Alberta reported a record-high 919 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Saturday.

It eclipses the previous single-day mark of 802 new cases set on Nov. 4.

There were five additional deaths due to the novel coronavirus, bringing the provincial total to 357.

The data is preliminary as no new numbers for hospitalizations or intensive care are available.

Of the five deaths, two were linked to the Edmonton General Care Centre: a woman in her 80s and a man in his 90s.

A woman in her 100s who passed away was linked to the outbreak at the Mount Royal long-term care home in Calgary.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw took to Twitter to say she was very concerned with the rising numbers.

“It is vital that we bring our numbers down to protect our health system,” she said. “This weekend, do everything possible to follow the measures announced Friday & break the chains of transmission. We’re all in this together.”
