Santa Claus is coming to the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

In anticipation of his arrival, the Municipality will host a special drive-thru reverse parade so residents can see him in-person.

Mayor Don Scott said the annual parade is an important tradition to many in the RMWB.

“This year’s Santa Claus Parade format allows us to come together to enjoy the sights and sounds of the parade from the warmth of vehicles or transit buses while ensuring that public health guidelines are followed. I would also like to thank the team at the Municipality and our great community volunteers and partners for their efforts in creating an opportunity for residents to celebrate as a region this holiday season.”

Spots in the parade sold out on Nov. 23.

RMWB spokesperson Greg Bennett said the Municipality booked 1271 vehicle tickets and 90 transit tickets.

“We are pleased to see the level of interest and support in this year’s drive-thru Santa Claus Parade. We understand how important this parade is for Wood Buffalo and the role it plays in our residents’ annual holiday traditions.”

Despite being unable to commit additional capacity, Bennett said the parade committee will examine if other options are available.
