While 2020 has been a difficult year for many, the community rallied together to help the Wood Buffalo Food Bank (WBFB) reach its $300,000 goal for this year’s Syncrude Food Drive.

The Syncrude Food Drive kicked off on Nov. 26 with the Corporate Challenge, which raised $265,440.

The Corporate Challenge is a 12-hour radiothon hosted by Country 93.3 and 97.9 Rock.

From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. individuals and businesses were encouraged to call in and make a pledge, as well as challenge others to do the same.

Syncrude Canada started off the donations with $95,000.

This year more than 40 people called in or donated online with pledges starting at $20.

While there will be no volunteers accepting donations for this year’s food drive, you can place non-perishable food items, cash or gift cards in the black bins placed at the front of local grocery stores.

You can also donate online here.

The WBFB is hoping to raise 80,000 pounds of food by the end of the weekend.
