Residents can provide input on two significant parks in Wood Buffalo.

Live on the Municipality’s website are surveys for potential features as well as concept designs for Memorial Park and the Franklin and Main Park.

Memorial Park would retell the story of the 2016 Horse River Wildfire and pay tribute to the recovery process.

Residents may share feedback on its potential features by taking the survey, which will remain online until Dec. 13, 2020.

“In addition to acknowledging and paying respect to these experiences, the park will create opportunities for residents to reflect, honour first responders and remember those who passed away following [the] evacuation.”

In 2019, the Municipality chose Beacon Hill as the site for Memorial Park beginning with initial site prep.

Further public engagement opportunities will be available in the near future.

Two preliminary concept designs for Franklin and Main Park are also available on the Municipality’s website.

Community members may take a poll with the information used in this the final round of public engagement for this project.

The Wood Buffalo Downtown Revitalization Advisory Committee proposed Franklin and Main Park to RMWB Council in March, which they approved.

The poll closes on Dec. 13, 2020.

Residents may share their thoughts on the proposed parks on the Municipality’s website.
