EDMONTON (660 NEWS) – In her first live update since Dec. 28. Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw is reporting 843 new cases of COVID-19.
This is a decrease from 1,128 cases recorded for Jan. 3.
Twenty-six more Albertans have died as a result of COVID related complications.
The death toll in the province now sits at 1,168.

The Edmonton zone is continuing to lead the province in active infections with 5,794, while the Calgary zone has 4,545.
There is a total of 13,411 active cases throughout the province.

Nine hundred and nineteen people are presently in the hospital, with 140 in the ICU.
As of Tuesday afternoon, 91,797 people have recovered from the coronavirus.
As for vaccinations, Health Minister Tyler Shandro says the province is a bit behind when It comes to immunizing Albertans.
So far, 26,000 vaccines have been given to health care workers and long-term care residents.

“Alberta Health Services has launched an online appointment booking tool for health care workers. This new tool is available to eligible health care workers by invitation only at this time to book their COVID-19 immunization from their phone or from their computer. AHS is doing everything that it can to immunize as many people as possible with the available vaccines.”
Shandro adds, the province is working to hire more workers who can give vaccines
“AHS has been working closely with the continuing care operators to facilitate immunization on site of their staff and residents. AHS is actively recruiting additional staff to join their team of immunizers.”
