FORT MCMURRAY (MyMcMurray) – Wood Buffalo RCMP are investigating the attempted theft of a vehicle that had two children inside.

Mounties say the incident happened just before 4 p.m. on January 13.

A vehicle was left parked and running while the driver went into a business on Franklin Avenue.

It’s believed the suspect got into the vehicle and started to drive away.

After travelling just a few metres, police believe the man heard children in the back making noise, so he stopped the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

The children were not harmed and RCMP are hoping to locate the would-be car thief.

Anyone with information or dash camera/surveillance footage that may help with this investigation is asked to contact Wood Buffalo RCMP at 780-788-4040.
