Fort McMurray Police seize crack cocaine and cash from downtown home

FORT MCMURRAY (660 NEWS) — A 29-year-old Fort McMurray man has been charged with drug-related offenses after police found crack cocaine and cash inside a downtown home.

Wood Buffalo RCMP says the investigation began after The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) received a tip about drug activity in the area.

RCMP searched a home on Jan. 22 and found 133 grams of crack cocaine as well as $30,000 in cash.

Yimag Abdi-Ahmed was arrested and charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, production of a controlled substance, possession of proceeds of crime and failure to comply with release conditions. Abdi-Ahmed was charged with similar offences during an unrelated 2019 ALERT investigation. Abdi-Ahmed remains in police custody while he awaits a bail hearing.

Police could not confirm whether court dates have been set.
