Eleven additional COVID-19 deaths, 259 new cases

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) – The province is reporting 259 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

In Alberta, there are a total of 6,060 active cases, with the Calgary zone leading in active infections.

The Calgary zone has 2,717, while the Edmonton zone has 2,147.

The provincial positivity rate currently sits at 3.5 per cent.

During Wednesday’s live provincial update, Dr. Deena Hinshaw confirmed 11 additional deaths. The death toll in Alberta now sits at 1,671.

Five hundred and thirty-nine people are presently in the hospital with 94 in the ICU.

When it comes to the new COVID variant, Hinshaw confirmed a total of 57 cases.

There are fifty cases of the U.K variant and seven of the South African variant.

As of Wednesday afternoon, 116,820 people have recovered from COVID-19.
