FORT MCMURRAY (660 NEWS) — People who live in Fort McMurray are asked to fill out an online survey on their thoughts regarding off highway vehicles or OHVs.

According to a news release, the OHV master plan for the urban service area is being updated and feedback from residents, including from non-OHV users, is needed to develop the plan.

The survey closes Mar. 8 and can be found on the RMWB website.

The plan is being updated because of the 2016 wildfire, which changed many of the greenbelt areas. These changes have now created challenges with unauthorized use of off highway vehicles.

The master plan is being updated to provide recommendations to mitigate these challenges while still encouraging responsible use.

“While it’s important we hear from ohv users, it is just as important to hear from non-ohv users to ensure the updated plan and recommendations reflect the views of the entire community,” said Manager of Parks Stephen Fudge.

If changes to the OHV bylaws are proposed in the future, updates will be presented to council for approval at a public hearing.

There will also be future opportunities for residents to formally share their thoughts about any proposed change.
