EDMONTON (660NEWS) — While no live update was held by the province Wednesday, the rise in case numbers, continued.

Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw took to Twitter with the latest numbers, which saw an increase from the day prior.

Twenty-two new cases of the B.1.1.7 variant were confirmed in Alberta Wednesday, along with 13 additional deaths.

In total, 430 new cases of the virus were confirmed in the province over the past 24 hours.

Currently, 307 people are in hospital, with 56 people now in the Intensive Care Unit.

These new numbers come just hours after vaccination appointments were opened online for Albertans 75 years of age and older.

It was no shock to many that the Alberta Health Services (AHS) site experienced issues and 8-1-1 was piled with phone calls on day one.

Through the frustrations, Dr. Hinshaw said over 25,000 Albertans were able to book in for their vaccine appointments.

Dr. Hinshaw will not be holding another live update until after the weekend, on Monday, March 1.
