FORT MCMURRAY (660 NEWS) – The provincial budget has been revealed and it includes some capital funding for Willow Square Continuing Care Centre.

Investing in health care, preparing for recovery, and maintaining responsible spending are the three main priorities of Budget 2021.

“This budget is great news for the constituents of Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche,” said MLA Laila Goodridge in a release. “With an historic investment in health care, Alberta’s government is responding to the most pressing issue our province faces – responding to COVID-19 and keeping Albertans safe. At the same time, Budget 2021 prepares Alberta for economic recovery by creating jobs right now, while also taking a careful approach to spending. This budget protects both lives and livelihoods and I’m proud to support it.”

The budget includes almost $6 million for Willow Square in Fort McMurray and more than $8 million over the next three years that will help pay for renovations at the Lac La Biche Youth Assessment Centre.

It’s wonderful to see funding allocated to important community projects throughout Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche,” Goodridge said. “Willow Square will provide more continuing care spaces for our seniors in Fort McMurray. Renovations to the Lac La Biche Youth Assessment Centre will allow the organization to continue doing their vital work supporting youth in our community for another 40 years. These two important projects will serve the residents in northeastern Alberta now and for generations to come.”

Construction wrapped up on the Willow Square Continuing Care Centre earlier this year after several delays. It is expected to have 108 beds upon opening and has space for 36 additional beds to meet future needs.
