CALGARY (660NEWS) — Sixteen new cases of the B.1.1.7 variant were identified in Alberta Friday.

The new variant numbers come as the province records an additional 356 cases of COVID-19.

Along with the newly identified cases, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw announced three more deaths were recorded over the past 24 hours.

Currently, 256 people are in hospital fighting COVID-19, while 55 are in the Intensive Care Unit.

WATCH: The Health Minister says it is possible we could see the easing of restrictions Monday.

Though Dr. Hinshaw hasn’t held a live update since Tuesday, she still took to Twitter to provide Albertans with a reminder ahead of the weekend.

The next live update from the province will be held Monday, with updated numbers being posted online through the weekend.
