Edmonton Oilers ask Alberta Health to allow fans into arena

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) – The fake crowd noise playing through the air at Rogers Place is just not cutting it for the Edmonton Oilers.

The NHL team is asking Alberta Health to allow a limited number of fans back into its home arena.

The idea has already received much support from Oilers players who admit it is weird having no fans in the building as they play.

The last time the Oilers play in front of a packed house at Rogers Place was Mar. 11, 2020, a 4-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets.

The NHL suspended play the following day due to COVID-19.

Alberta Health would need to approve the idea but as a spokesperson for the team points out, many arenas in the United States have reopened for fans, at a limited capacity.
