CALGARY (660NEWS) — There have been 411 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Alberta over the last 24 hours.
Twenty-two new cases of the B.1.1.7 variant have also been identified in the province in the last day.

On top of the new cases, two deaths have been reported. Two men in their 70s in both the Calgary and Edmonton zones lost their fight with the virus.
Since Thursday, there have been slight decreases in hospitalizations, with 243 people now in hospital, and 44 people in the ICU.
No live update was held by the province Friday. The next live update from Dr. Deena Hinshaw is expected to be Monday afternoon.
Friday evening, Dr. Deena Hinshaw took to Twitter to report Alberta’s first acute care case of the B.1.1.7 variant.
We continue to work hard to identify variant cases and limit their spread in Alberta. Today, I must inform you that a case of COVID-19 linked to the Westlock Healthcare Centre has tested positive for the U.K. variant. (1/3)

Dr. Hinshaw says this case was not acquired in hospital, and that outbreak protocols have been implemented to prevent further spread.
