CALGARY (660NEWS) — A professor from The University of Alberta has designed a website that makes it easier to track oil and gas wells in our province.

Professor Joel Gehman from The Alberta School of Business says he’s an advocate of data accessibility and although The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) supplies this information, he says sometimes it’s difficult to find.

The website wellwiki.org allows you to search wells by towns and regions for the hundreds of thousands of wells that exist here in Alberta.

Gehman first started collecting data back in 2013 as part of his research into how corporations are responding to concerns surrounding sustainability.

The new data for wells is geared to farmers, ranchers and landowners and was originally launched in 2013.

Since then, Gehman has cataloged more than 4.3 million wells.
