FORT MCMURRAY – A grade 9 student from Fort McMurray has been given a highly coveted national award by The Royal Conservatory of Music.
Aarushi Vasal, who attends Westwood Community Highschool, received the national medal in the Level 7 speech examination unit.
She said it was an amazing honour when she was given the gold medal, because she competed with hundreds of other students all across Canada
As part of the exam Aarushi recited poetry, performed a monologue, presented a scene from a Shakespeare play, performed a self-written speech and did research on authors from her program.
There was also sight reading, improvisation and a discussion with the examiner regarding her program and authors.
The award ceremony was held virtually this year because of COVID-19.
Vasal is setting some high goals for the future saying, eventually, she would like to become a doctor.
