CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Just one day after restrictions were reimposed in the province, Alberta has reported the highest daily case count of COVID-19 this year.
In the past 24 hours, 1,351 cases were identified, with 575 being variants of concern.

Hospitalizations in the province rose slightly to 333, with 79 people now in the ICU, a three person increase from yesterday.
One new death was reported on Wednesday.
As for vaccines, 21,428 vaccines were administered over the last day, bringing total vaccinations administered in Alberta to 755,831.

Over 133,000 Albertans have now been fully vaccinated with two doses of vaccine.
On Tuesday, premier Jason Kenney said in the battle with variants, the variants are winning. Numbers released Wednesday are backing that up.
Currently, the Edmonton zone has 2,640 active COVID-19 cases, with 55 per cent of those now variants of concern.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw did not hold a live update Wednesday, instead taking to Twitter with updated numbers and a message for the province about changes to vaccine bookings for Phase 2B announced Tuesday.
More than 1.5 million ABs are eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccine now,” she said. “If you are eligible in Phase 2B or earlier, or are 55-64 for AstraZeneca, please book an appointment today to help stop the spread of the virus.”
