Fort McMurray man charged with luring 13-year-old girl

FORT MCMURRAY (660 NEWS) – A 48-year-old Fort McMurray man is facing charges of luring a 13-year-old girl.

ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit began investigating after receiving a tip from the public and arrested Pulenthirakumer Arulamapalan in west Edmonton on March 12. It is alleged he travelled from Fort McMurray in order to meet the girl for sex.

“ICE believes our intervention and arrest prevented a sexual assault,” said Staff Sergeant Mike Zaparyniuk in a news release. “This is another all-too real reminder for parents to take a proactive role in understanding who your children are engaging and talking with online.”

Arulamapalan has been charged with child luring, obtaining sex services of a child for consideration, possessing child pornography, distributing child pornography, and making available child pornography.

Anyone with information on this or any other child exploitation case is encouraged to contact police. Anonymous tips can be provided at www.cybertip.ca.
