CALGARY (660 NEWS) — As hospitalizations continue to climb in the province due to COVID-19, Alberta Health Services (AHS) says it is preparing to deal with future capacity issues by reducing scheduled surgeries starting Tuesday.

In a tweet, AHS says over the next two weeks, Edmonton, Calgary and North Zones will be reducing scheduled surgical activity up to 30 per cent, including the reduction of some non-urgent procedures and ambulatory appointments.

AHS says these appointments will be re-booked as soon as possible, and only those affected by this change will be contacted.

“It’s important to note that provincially, we have never dipped below 88 per cent of surgical volume throughout the pandemic,” AHS said in a tweet.
