OTTAWA – Canada’s prime minister says it’s a shame to see people pointing the finger after Alberta’s minister of justice insinuated that certain people wanted to see our health system overwhelmed by COVID-19.

Late last week, Kaycee Madu commented on a post on his Facebook page, claiming the provincial NDP, the media, and the federal Liberals wanted a pandemic disaster.

The comment was part of his defense of new health restrictions aimed at reversing soaring case rates in Alberta.

“My point is that I don’t think it will be responsible to simply wait until we have a disaster on our hands. That’s what the NDP, the media, and the federal Liberals were looking for and want. We simply couldn’t allow that to happen,” the comment read.

“While I hear the anger and disappointment of our people, I will continue to urge calm, patience, and cooperation as we near the end of this pandemic. I ask that we don’t tear ourselves down and hand over Alberta to the NDP.”

Tuesday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said it’s a shame to see people “suggesting that anyone in Canada wants anything else than to get through this pandemic as safely as possible.”

Trudeau also said the feds are working with provincial and local governments to bring the pandemic under control.

“That’s certainly what the media is focused on as well. I think playing politics at this point is just not what Canadians want to see.”

Trudeau added that he spoke with Premier Jason Kenney last week, along with the mayors of Calgary and Edmonton to offer any additional support that they see fit.

Madu has yet to address the comments on his Facebook page.
