EDMONTON – Businesses and non-profits will be able to access rapid COVID-19 testing kits for free, thanks to a deal between the provincial government and Alberta chambers of commerce.

There’s hope these tests can help detect cases sooner within workplaces, with the results of rapid tests being combined with traditional COVID-19 tests to confirm positive cases.

“We are working hard to ensure we limit the spread of COVID-19 in every corner of our province, and we are not stopping until this pandemic is behind us. Rapid screening enables us to catch cases early and stop them in their tracks, thereby protecting both Albertans and our health system,” said Health Minister Tyler Shandro in a release.

“This partnership gives businesses another leg up to move our economy forward. By making it easier to access rapid testing kits when and where they need them, we are providing businesses with a vital tool to protect their workers and the Albertans they serve,” said Premier Jason Kenney.

A membership to a chamber is not required, as businesses need only to apply to their local chamber to obtain the kits.

They will also be required to send in weekly reports on how many tests were performed and how many positive results were detected.
