EDMONTON – A new poll from Angus Reid shows Alberta’s premier has the lowest approval rating among his peers in the country.

Jason Kenney is getting a failing grade on numerous topics, including the ongoing response to the pandemic.

Just a few months ago, nearly two-in-five Albertans approved of him–that number is now 31 per cent.

Alberta’s relaxed restrictions have been widely criticized as has the reopening for summer plan from the UCP.

Doctors and nurses have called the strategy rushed, with many calling for more time between stages.

Kenney also recently issued a mea culpa about a week after he came under fire for hosting a rooftop dinner with colleagues at the Sky Palace.

Other issues are also contributing to Kenney’s low approval rating, but the one thing people seem to be less worried about is how the province is handling the environment.

Nearly 40 per cent said they think Kenney is managing environmental issues well. About a third said the same about healthcare in the province.

But Kenney does not appear to be too fazed with projections for the opposition NDP looking up, saying that the province has become very polarized over the past year.

“I can’t wait for us to get open for summer, to get past COVID to a great Alberta summer and to start to see the fruits of our economic policies,” he said when asked about the poll Wednesday.

Among voter intention, the NDP has an 11-point lead over the UCP.
