Calgary truck driver pleads guilty to drug charges after trying to smuggle cocaine across border

CALGARY – A Calgary truck driver is facing trafficking charges after he admitted to trying to smuggle cocaine over the Canada-U.S. border by sneaking them into a shipment of bananas.
According to a release from U.S. officials, the drugs were found by border inspectors at the end of January.
The cocaine was in boxes that were different shapes and colours than the bananas, so they were relatively easy to spot.

A 39-year-old man from Calgary pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
He faces a minimum of five years in prison.
