Alberta identifies 124 new COVID-19 cases, 237 in hospital

CALGARY — Alberta identified 124 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday.

The new cases come following the completion of 5,574 tests — giving the province a positivity rate of roughly 2.2 per cent over the last day.

There are currently 2,336 active cases of the virus in Alberta.

Hospitalizations continue to trend downward, with 237 people in hospital, 58 of which are in the ICU.

There were an additional three deaths reported on Friday.

As for vaccinations, Alberta hit the threshold required to move into Stage 3 of the province’s reopening plan.

As of Thursday evening, 70.2 per cent of the province’s eligible population had received a COVID-19 vaccine.

There were 65,510 total doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered over the last day, with 8,683 being first-dose appointments.

Having cross the 70 per cent threshold on Thursday, Stage 3 of the province’s reopening is now set for July 1.
