EDMONTON – RCMP say a man they had been searching for near a provincial park in northern Alberta died shortly after being arrested on Friday.
Mounties say Lionel Grey, who is said to have shot and killed a service dog during the pursuit, had serious injuries when he was apprehended.
Investigators have not said what injuries the 29-year-old had, or how he died.
Officers say they had tried to stop Grey, who was wanted by police, as he was driving Thursday near High Prairie, Alta.
They say Grey fled during the traffic stop, but his vehicle got stuck in mud near Winagami Provincial Park and he ran away on foot.
Cpl. Deanna Fontaine says that’s when the service dog, named Jago, was shot.
