Residents in Fort McMurray now have more time to complete their Municipal Census.

According to a news release from The RMWB, The Municipal Census 2021 will be extended until Saturday, July 31, 2021.

The extension comes after numerous factors allowing urban enumerators safety to return to neighborhoods such as termination of the State of Local of Emergency that was declared June 8th, increase of local vaccinations administered, and the announcement of Stage 3 re-opening from the Provincial Government.

Door-to-door enumerators support completion by visiting dwellings that haven’t yet completed their Census.

If residents aren’t comfortable participating in person, a door hanger will be left at the dwelling with their specific PIN number.

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo encourages residents to do their part and provide information to enumerators in the hopes of increasing the number of residents counted.

As of June 25, 2021, 37,439 residents have been counted with 45.67% (17,615) dwellings counted.

The Federal Census is currently being conducted at the same time. The main difference with the Municipal Census is the Federal Census takes place every five years and doesn’t capture the shadow population, which accounts for a significant part of Wood Buffalo’s population.
