EDMONTON — Alberta has identified 61 new cases of COVID-19, including 16 variant cases, over the last 24 hours.
The new cases come following the completion of roughly 3,400 tests — a positivity rate of about 1.6 per cent.
There are now 1,132 active cases in Alberta — the lowest active case count since August 26, 2020.

There are now 170 people in hospital, with 36 in the ICU.
Four additional deaths were reported on Tuesday.
“Across the board, our numbers are moving in the right direction,” said Dr. Deena Hinshaw. “Cases, hospitalizations, ICU admissions, and our positivity rates are the lowest they’ve been since last summer and early fall. Right now, there are only five active cases in all the continuing care facilities in Alberta combined. That is a remarkable number.”

As for vaccination numbers, 72.7 per cent of eligible Albertans have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine — while 40.7 per cent are now fully immunized.
To date, more than 4.26 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta.
After 16 months, Dr. Hinshaw will no longer be providing regularly scheduled COVID-19 updates — instead only making appearances when needed.

It has challenged all of us in ways that we never could have expected, but it has also made clear one indisputable fact, we are stronger and safer together.
