CALGARY – The Calgary Stampede this year will kick off with a bang.

“The Fireworks Spectacular” will happen in Lethbridge, Red Deer, Edmonton, and Calgary this Friday to celebrate the start of the outdoor festival.

The Stampede says its goal is to light up the night sky across Alberta.

“The Grand Stand fireworks are, I guess I could say famous, a lot of people talk about it, I get a lot of questions about the show,” said Brad Dezotell with the Stampede. “It’s a nice opportunity to take the show on the road and show the rest of the province what we do in Calgary and maybe one day they come down to see it in person, or maybe they don’t and they get to see it right from their own backyard.”

The fireworks will be identical and start at the same time and be synchronized to a musical soundtrack in all four cities.

“Not only is it the same soundtrack, but it’s essentially a version of the same show,” said Dezotell. “So, whether you’re sitting in Red Deer, Lethbridge, Edmonton, or even at the Grand Stand that night, you’re going to see the exact same fireworks show to the exact same music.”

There will be fireworks every night of the Stampede, but the four city show will only run on opening night.
