FORT MCMURRAY (660 NEWS) – After waiving transit fares for the past year and a bit, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo will be reinstating them in a month’s time.

The R-M-W-B opted to waive fares during the pandemic to remove the need for passengers and drivers to interact.

However, as of Monday, August 30, you’ll have to pay to ride the bus once again.

“The Municipality continues to provide some of the most affordable rates for public transit in Canada,” reads a press release from the RMWB.

Riders are reminded to continue practicing physical distancing and as per the provincial mandate, masks continue to be required on public transit buses.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw announced on Wednesday that those masking restrictions will be lifted on August 16.
