FORT MCMURRAY (660 NEWS) – The Fort McMurray SPCA has launched an online fundraiser to help keep its jam-packed shelter running.

According to a press release issued on Thursday, the SPCA is currently caring for more than 80 animals and the shelter is near full capacity.

“Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic has prevented us from raising enough funds to carry out our operations that provide the animals in our care with shelter, medicine, and food to keep them safe and healthy until they find their forever homes,” reads the release.

The Fort McMurray SPCA has been operating in the region for the past 43 years and helped more than 600 animals last year alone.

Sadly, due to the pandemic the SPCA was forced to cancel most of the major fundraising events in 2020 and uncertainty over restrictions this year led to the same outcome.

The organization is in desperate need of donations and has set a goal of raising at least $50,000 with this latest push.
