The NHL Board of Governors has approved the sale of advertising space on player uniforms, Eben Novy-Williams and Scott Soshnick of Sportico report.

According to Novy-Williams and Soshnick, the vote was unanimous among the league’s 32 teams and clubs are now able to begin negotiating with potential ad partners.

The advertisements will be three-inch by 3.5 inches in shape, although it’s unclear where exactly they will be placed. The NBA introduced jersey patches ahead of the 2017-18 season which can be seen on the front left shoulder of the uniforms.

The NHL, in an effort to recoup money lost from the pandemic, allowed teams to sell ad space on helmets for the first time last season.
