CALGARY — Alberta reported 629 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday — and while the cases reported are lower than the last few days — the positivity rate is raising some concerns.
The new numbers come after 6,010 tests were completed, a positivity rate of around 10.5 per cent.
That rate of positive tests hasn’t been seen since mid-May.

Active cases also continue to steadily increase — with 7,931 active infections in the province as of Tuesday afternoon.
Of positive cases in the province, Edmonton is fast approaching Calgary for the lead.
Last week, Edmonton sat a few hundred cases back of the top spot, but in the last few days, has seen a rise in active infections — with 1,780 — which isn’t far behind Calgary with 1,807.

As for hospitalizations, there are now 258 people in hospital, with 57 in the ICU.
There were seven additional deaths reported on Tuesday.
Of those in hospital, 201 aren’t yet vaccinated — while 51 of 57 patients in the ICU are also unvaccinated.
Meanwhile, over the last 24 hours, Alberta surpassed 5.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered.
Of the eligible population in Alberta, 77.4 per cent have received at least one shot, while 68.9 per cent are fully vaccinated.
