EDMONTON – Four operating rooms in Edmonton will be closed temporarily once again due to staffing shortages.
The rooms in the Orthopedic Surgery Centre (OSC) at the Royal Alexandra Hospital will be closed until Aug. 27 and then again between Aug. 31 and Sept. 3.
In total 83 scheduled, elective surgical cases will be postponed. This is in addition to the 53 cases that were postponed due to closures between August 16-18.

AHS says patients affected by this are being notified with surgeries being re-scheduled as soon as possible, noting that the OSC has already done more orthopedic surgeries in the last five months than during the same period over the past three years.
In addition, the OSC is targeting to complete 3,759 cases this year, a 37 per cent increase over pre-COVID volumes.

AHS says these bed closures will not be affecting emergency surgeries.
