EDMONTON – Four operating rooms in Edmonton will be closed temporarily once again due to staffing shortages.

The rooms in the Orthopedic Surgery Centre (OSC) at the Royal Alexandra Hospital will be closed until Aug. 27 and then again between Aug. 31 and Sept. 3.

According to Alberta Health Services, 83 scheduled, elective surgeries will be postponed.

This is in addition to the 53 operations that were postponed due to closures between Aug. 16-18.

AHS says patients affected by this are being notified with surgeries being re-scheduled as soon as possible, noting that the OSC has already done more orthopedic surgeries in the last five months than during the same period over the past three years.

AHS says these bed closures will not be affecting emergency surgeries.
