CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Jennifer Abel is one of this country’s most decorated athletes, with over two dozen medals representing Canada.

The diver was also part of an incredible run by female athletes at the 2020 Olympics, when she, along with partner Mélissa Citrini-Beaulieu, took silver in the three-metre synchronized springboard — one of 18 medals captured by women this summer in Tokyo.

But, now, the 30-year-old is moving on from Olympic competition.

“I’ve seen it all in my diving career,” the four-time Olympian reflected. “The Olympics got postponed, so having that extra year really made me realize that it’s important to have a plan after my diving career because, at that time, I didn’t know what was going to happen.

“So I took that time to train, but at the same time, think about what’s going to happen next for me because I knew I was going to retire from my Olympic circle.”

She recently collaborated with Amazon for its Career Day, which happened earlier this week, to look at what’s next for her, while hoping other Canadians looking to make a job change would take advantage of the free service.

“It was really important for me to look at what they have to offer,” she explained. “And maybe see something I haven’t thought of or fallen in love with a different career.”

Abel also hopes that the female-driven Team Canada success at the Olympics will be considered a norm.

“It’s all about working hard and not trying to do it for someone else,” she said. “We are strong, and I think it’s really important to listen to ourselves and to express ourselves, and I think now there’s a movement that we speak louder. I think it shows in our results.”

And for those who weren’t able to take part in the Amazon event, you can still access the sessions until the end of the month.
