CALGARY — It was another weekend of rising COVID infections in Alberta.
Over the last three days, active infections have risen by more than 1,400, with there now being 20,614 active cases in the province.
Meanwhile, 4,633 new cases of the virus have been reported since Friday. The weekend breakdown is as follows:
- 1,605 new cases reported on Sept. 17
- 1,592 new cases reported on Sept. 18
- 1,436 new cases reported on Sept. 19

In total, more than 46,000 tests were completed, for an average positivity rate of 10 per cent.
Sunday’s case numbers are something to note, as nearly 100 per cent of those who got the virus were unvaccinated.
The new case numbers aren’t the only concerning numbers being released by the province.
As hospitals continue to face overwhelming pressure due to the fourth wave, hospitalizations remain on the rise.
Since Friday, 43 more people have been checked into hospital with COVID-19, bringing the total number of people in hospital to 954.
Of those in hospital, 216 have been admitted to the ICU.
Meanwhile, 22 additional deaths were reported over the three-day period.

Of the 954 people in hospital currently, 751 are unvaccinated, or about 79 per cent.
As for vaccinations, the province administered more than 59,000 vaccine doses over the weekend — 34,595 of which were first dose appointments.
The high vaccine uptake comes as the Restriction Exemption Program goes into place and those who were unvaccinated opt to get the shot.
This past weekend’s vaccination numbers were up 113 per cent compared to the weekend prior.
