TORONTO — The Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame is sharing its love for the classic rock hit “What About Love.”

Organizers say the anthemic ballad will be inducted Thursday in a virtual presentation with a special appearance by U.S. singer Ann Wilson, whose band Heart made it a global hit.

Hall of Fame director Nicholas Fedor notes “What About Love” was written in 1982 by Canadian trio Sheron Alton, Brian Allen and Jim Vallance, and was originally intended for the third album by Alton and Allen’s band Toronto.

The band recorded a demo but later voted to leave it out of the album because, as Allen remembers, they thought the song “didn’t fit with the others.”

Three years later, the song made its way to Heart, and Wilson’s powerhouse vocals drove the single to the Top 40 charts for 12 weeks.

The song induction will air Thursday on Global’s “The Morning Show.”

Toronto themselves released “What About Love” in 2002, when Solid Gold Records added the track as a bonus on their reissued “Get It On Credit” album.

Vallance continued his successful hit-writing career with Bryan Adams, Aerosmith and other performers.
